Abstract(s)
no futuro.
Demographic Ageing is a reality that results in an increased human longevity with chronic pathologies associated that tend to raise. In this context Alzheimer’s Disease is known to be a neurodegenerative disease with no cure to date. It is the most prevalent form of dementia and is clinically traduced by cognitive, behavioral and functional disorders. Facing the evidence that determines decay, periodontal disease and the lack of mastication as risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease it is relevant to understand the underlying mechanism to these factors in order to formulate strategies for its modulation. In this context we propose the restitution of good oral hygiene habits as a way to reduce decay and periodontal disease incidence at the same time that we prevent edentulism. In case that edentulism happens we replace the missing dental pieces via prosthodontics in order to induce a higher mastication stimulus and thereby preventing Alzheimer’s disease.
