Abstract(s)
Obstetric violence includes omissions, violent acts that are inappropriate, non-consensual or not perceived as violent during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. These forms of violence can be categorized into different types, including physical, verbal and sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, discrimination, unnecessary practices and iatrogenic procedures. The practice of these acts affects not only the parturient woman but also her family and the relationship she establishes with the newborn. As well as contributing to a public health problem, it can be considered a type of gender-based violence. It will therefore be important to explore the types of obstetric violence practiced against pregnant women at the time of childbirth worldwide, through an integrative literature review, and in the future to understand ways of eradicating obstetric violence and guaranteeing access to good health care so that all families have a safe and respected childbirth experience.
