| dc.description.abstract | A COVID-19 é uma enfermidade provocada pelo novo coronavírus (SARS-CoV-2), descoberta em Wuhan, na China, em dezembro de 2019, e declarada como pandemia pela Organização Mundial da Saúde em março de 2020. As manifestações clínicas ocorrem essencialmente no sistema respiratório, contudo esta patologia também pode ter outras implicações, nomeadamente na cavidade oral. Neste âmbito, o objetivo do presente estudo é analisar possíveis implicações orais da COVID- 19 na população, consequência das restrições no atendimento odontológico impostas pela pandemia ou da infeção pelo SARS-CoV-2. Os resultados sugerem, de facto, existir uma relação entre a pandemia e a ocorrência de alterações na saúde oral da população e dos pacientes COVID-19. Contudo, e uma vez que esta é uma patologia nova e recente, serão necessários mais estudos sobre este assunto, devendo estes ser longitudinais e com amostras de tamanho representativo. | dc.description.abstract | COVID-19 is a disease caused by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), discovered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, and declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020. Clinical manifestations occur essentially in the respiratory system, however this pathology can also have other implications, namely in the oral cavity. In this context, the objective of the present study is to analyse possible oral implications of COVID-19 in the population, as a result of restrictions on dental care imposed by the pandemic or infection by SARS-CoV-2. The results suggest, in fact, that there is a relationship between the pandemic and the occurrence of changes in the oral health of the population and COVID- 19 patients. However, since this is a new and recent pathology, further studies on this subject will be necessary, and these should be longitudinal and with samples of representative size. This work consisted of a literature review, carried out through a systematic search of articles published in PubMed and Scielo. | pt_PT |
