Abstract(s)
Summary: The aim of this study is to present the scientific evidence on the prevalence of persistent apical lesions after non-surgical endodontic treatment and their relationship with cardiovascular disease. Materials and methods: The literature search was carried out using the electronic search engines PubMed, ScienceDirect, Trip-Medical Database and B-ON. The key words used in the search were: "Apical Periodontitis", "Root Canal Treatment", "Persistent Periapical lesions", "cardiovascular diseases", "Immune Response". These words were combined with each other using the Boolean operators "AND" and "OR . The search yielded 2603 articles. After removing duplicate articles and applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria, 4 articles were included in this integrative review. Conclusions: The review of the scientific literature shows that there is an association between cardiovascular pathologies and the persistence of periapical lesions after endodontic treatment. However, the association does not always imply causality.
