Abstract(s)
This thesis reviews the ethical issues in restorative dentistry by using Amalgam containing Mercury. Mercury is a highly toxic heavy metal widely present environmental pollutant that in certain forms poses a threat to ecosystems, so that a lot of countries banned or at least restricted (also called phasing out) – not only on the environmental – but also on the dental aspect, because of its hazardous impact on health. Dental amalgam is a clinically well‐proven and successful filling material, but the use of dental amalgam is one of several sources of mercury pollution, yet it is cheap and reliable and because of that partly supported or approved in some countries. This thesis concludes by proposing a way to deal with the emerging ethical problems. A bibliographic search was performed using B-on, PubMed and textbooks, based on the keyword “Amalgam”.
