Abstract(s)
Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease with a high prevalence in older age groups, with oral implications in patients. It is the responsibility of the dentist to make an early diagnosis and effectively monitor these patients in order to prevent disease- related complications and assist in controlling the disease itself. Methods: an observational, analytical and cross-sectional study was conducted by applying the OHIP-14 questionnaire to diabetic patients who are followed up in the endocrinology department of Hospital Pedro Hispano. The oral condition was assessed using the DMFT index. Results: The OHIP-14 total score obtained (M= 9.02, Sd= 8.36) may demonstrate that the sample has a low level of perception/impact on OHRQoL. In the analysis of the OHIP-14 items, the dimensions with the highest scores are those relating to physical disability and physical pain, and the least scored are social disability and disadvantage. The OHIP-14 with DMFT, has statistical significance (p=0.005) aquand with the number of missing teeth (p=0.001) which suggests that the number of teeth in the patient`s mouth has an impact on the OHRQoL Conclusion: In the study, it was found that there is no impact of DM on OHRQol in diabetics, and it can be concluded that they do not relate dental problems to the disease. DM patients with higher DMFT have more impact it has on the OHRQoL of these patients.
