| dc.description.abstract | Objetivo: Elucidar os médicos dentistas sobre o seu papel no reconhecimento, diagnóstico, tratamento e monitorização das manifestações orais das displasias ectodérmicas nos pacientes pediátricos, através da apresentação das características físicas gerais e craniofaciais específicas. Métodos: Pesquisa bibliográfica de artigos científicos na base de dados eletrónica PubMed. Foram utilizadas palavras-chaves em combinação: pediatric patients, oral rehabilitation, ectodermal dysplasia e oral manifestations. A seleção dos artigos foi realizada através da aplicação de critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Foram selecionados 67 artigos para elaboração deste trabalho. Tópico abordado: As displasias ectodérmicas geralmente apresentam manifestações orofaciais, especificamente, discrepâncias esqueléticas e alterações dentárias. O papel do odontopediatra na deteção e reconhecimento destas repercussões pode ser fundamental para o diagnóstico da doença, assim como, a reabilitação oral de pacientes pediátricos com esta condição é de suma importância para que, numa fase, precoce possa existir o restabelecimento das funções orais, mastigação, deglutição e fonação, assim como uma melhoria estética. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Objectives: This work pretends to elucidate dentists about their importance in the detection, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of the ectodermal dysplasia oral manifestations in pediatric patients, through the presentation of general physical and specific craniofacials characteristics. Methods: An extensive bibliographic research of scientific articles in the PubMed electronic database. A combination of several keywords (pediatric patients, oral rehabilitation, ectodermal dysplasia and oral manifestations) together with the application of different inclusion and exlusion criteria. This resulted in a research-base of 67 articles. Topic covered: The Ectodermal dysplasias generally present orofacial manifestations, such as skeletal discrepancies and dental alterations. The role of a dentist in the detection and recognition of these repercussions can therefore be fundamental in diagnosing the disease. The oral rehabilitation of pediatric patients with this condition is extremely important at a very early stage, contributing for the re-establishment of normal chewing, swallowing and phonation functions, and increasing aesthetics. | pt_PT |
