Os bisfosfonatos são utilizados há muitos anos e têm demonstrado um excelente perfil de
segurança, contudo o desenvolvimento de osteonecrose grave dos maxilares tem sido
descrito em pacientes que têm sido tratados com estes medicamentos. O conhecimento
das medidas preventivas recomendadas para os pacientes que vão ser submetidos a
tratamentos dentários e que vão iniciar ou estão em tratamento com bisfosfonatos, ou no
último caso desenvolveram osteonecrose dos maxilares, permitirá decidir adequadamente
sobre a execução ou não dos referidos tratamentos. O objetivo deste trabalho é conhecer
o estado atual da laserterapia para o tratamento da Osteonecrose dos maxilares devido ao
uso de bisfosfonatos. Para este fim, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica utilizando os
descritores de thesaurus MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) nas bases de dados PubMed,
ScienceDirect e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Os descritores usados foram:
"Osteonecrose", "Osteonecrose da mandíbula", "Osteonecrose maxilar", "Bisfosfonatos",
"Tratamento", " Terapia laser " e "Saúde oral". Foram obtidos um total de 2057 artigos,
dos quais 25 foram selecionados para a análise dos resultados. Os resultados sugerem que
o tratamento cirúrgico precoce assistido a laser pode dar melhores resultados em
comparação com a abordagem médica.
