| dc.description.abstract | Objetivo: Avaliar se o tratamento periodontal influencia o controlo metabólico da diabetes mellitus. Materiais e Métodos: Efetuou-se uma pesquisa recorrendo à base de dados da Pubmed entre Agosto e Setembro de 2018. Apenas foram selecionadas revisões sistemáticas e meta-análises, publicadas em português e inglês, nos últimos cinco anos e realizadas em humanos. A pesquisa resultou num total de 7 estudos. Resultados: Com base nos estudos apresentados, a terapia periodontal não cirúrgica, per se, influencia positivamente o controlo metabólico de pacientes diabéticos tipo 2 e parece ter um efeito benéfico em pacientes diabéticos tipo 1. Conclusões: São necessários mais estudos, de alta qualidade, com amostras maiores e períodos de seguimento mais alargados, para confirmar ou refutar os resultados encontrados. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Aim: To evaluate whether periodontal treatment influences the metabolic control of diabetes mellitus. Materials and Methods: A search was performed using the database Pubmed between August and September 2018. The selection of articles was based on exclusion and inclusion criteria, such as temporal limit (last 5 years), species (human), language (Portuguese, English), type of article (systematic reviews and meta-analyzes). 7 articles were selected Results: Based on the studies presented, non-surgical periodontal therapy per se positively influences the metabolic control of type 2 diabetic patients and appears to have a beneficial effect in type 1 diabetic patients. Conclusion: According to FEP (2016), a reduction of approximately 0.4% in HbA1C at 3 months, is clinically equivalent to the reduction of a second diabetes drug. Further studies, with more scientific evidence, are needed to confirm or refute the results found. | pt_PT |
