| dc.description.abstract | O bruxismo corresponde a uma atividade orofacial anormal, que se caracteriza pelo ranger, cerrar e apertar dos dentes, devido a movimentos mandibulares não funcionais. Normalmente, é detetado pelo médico dentista devido ao desgaste anormal dos dentes, disfunções temporomandibulares e dores orofaciais relatadas pelo paciente. A utilização da toxina botulínica tem surgido como uma alternativa promissora no controlo do bruxismo, por conseguir bloquear a transmissão neuromotora, aliviando os sintomas da patologia. Este trabalho tem como objetivo fazer uma revisão da literatura sobre a utilização da toxina botulínica em pacientes portadores de bruxismo, de forma a comparar e avaliar os resultados de diferentes estudos, para verificar a eficácia desta toxina e a possibilidade de ser uma alternativa de tratamento para o bruxismo. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Bruxism corresponds to an abnormal orofacial activity, characterized by the grinding, closing and tightening of the teeth, due to nonfunctional mandibular movements. It is usually detected by the dentist, due to abnormal tooth wear, temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain reported by the patient. The use of botulinum toxin has emerged as a promising alternative in the control of bruxism, because it can block neuromotor transmission, relieving the pathology's symptoms. This work aims to review the literature on the use of botulinum toxin in patients with bruxism, in order to compare and evaluate the results of different studies, to verify the efficacy of this toxin and the possibility of being an alternative treatment for bruxism. | pt_PT |
