Abstract(s)
Objectives: The technology of invisible aligners has evolved a lot in recent years and its dissemination is increasing. The benefits offered by this therapy are multiple, while its effectiveness is still uncertain. The aim of this study is to demonstrate how the system evolved and evaluate the effectiveness of aligners in various orthodontic movements. Materials and methods: A literature search of articles was conducted through the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline) database in the Pubmed portal, without language restriction, and the time limit of the last 10 years, between meta-analyses, systematic reviews and randomized studies. Results: 155 results were obtained which, after reading the title and abstract, applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles were selected. Conclusions: Although the results of current investigations are not sufficient to determine the exact effectiveness of treatment with removable aligners, in the various dental movements, the clinical results obtained are satisfactory when compared with fixed orthodontic appliances. Rotation and intrusion movements are the most difficult to predict. The use of auxiliary elements is essential to achieve greater control and predictability of certain movements and consequently greater effectiveness. As for the treatment of mild to moderate crowding, its effectiveness is fully confirmed.
