Abstract(s)

Neste trabalho, apresenta-se, resumidamente, a vida e obra de Manuel Severim de Faria, um erudito português que publicou, em 1626, 1627 e 1628, Relações noticiosas impressas, multitemáticas, que podem ser consideradas o primeiro jornal português, pois, apesar da ausência de periodicidade, tiveram como finalidade a difusão pública de informação e a venda. Nesse contexto, Manuel Severim de Faria, noticiarista, historiógrafo e editor, pode também ser considerado o primeiro jornalista português. No entanto, ele foi mais do que isso, pois procurou intervir nas discussões sobre o governo e o rumo do Portugal do seu tempo. In this work, we present, briefly, the life and work of Manuel Severim de Faria, a Portuguese scholar that published, in 1626, 1627 and 1628, two numbers of a Relação (one of them reedited) that can be considered as the first Portuguese newspapers. Despite the absence of periodicity, those newspapers, edited to be sold, had as purpose the public diffusion of information. In this context, Manuel Severim de Faria, historian and publisher, can be considered as the first Portuguese journalist. However, he was more than that, because he intended to participate in the discussions about the government and route of Portugal in his time.
