Contexto: A cor de um dente saudável é complexa, tem uma variabilidade interindividual e intraindividual. Estas variações dependem da espessura e da estrutura dos diferentes tecidos que compõem o dente. Assim, quando a cor de um dente diverge do normal representa uma discromia. A discromia dentária pode ser intrínseca ou extrínseca.
Objetivo: fazer uma revisão bibliográfica narrativa das diferentes soluções existentes de acordo com o tipo de discrómia, à luz dos conhecimentos actuais.
Metodologia: Foi realizada uma pesquisa nos motores de busca Pubmed, B-On e Google Scholar. Para além da pesquisa eletrónica, foram utilizados livros da biblioteca de Odontologia da Universidade de Nantes. Os critérios de inclusão foram: artigos completos escritos em inglês, português, francês, publicados desde 2001.
Desenvolvimento: Existem agora tratamentos, mais ou menos invasivos, para reduzir ou mesmo eliminar estas discrómicas, dependendo da sua natureza e severidade. Os autores propõem diferentes tratamentos que são: branqueamento dentário, microabrasão do esmalte, restaurações directas e indirectas.
Conclusão: Temos atualmente bastantes tratamentos disponíveis. Estes tratamentos devem ser propostos de acordo com o gradiente terapêutico, bem como de acordo com as limitações das diferentes técnicas e com a exigência estética do paciente.
Background: The colour of a healthy tooth is complex, it has inter-individual and intra-individual variability. These variations depend on the thickness and structure of the different tissues that make up the tooth. Thus, when the colour of a tooth deviates from normal it represents a dyschromia. Dental dyschromia can be intrinsic or extrinsic. Objective: to make a narrative bibliographic review of the different existing solutions according to the type of dyschromia, in the light of current knowledge. Methodology: A search was conducted on Pubmed, B-On and Google Scholar search engines. In addition to the electronic search, books from the library of Dentistry of the University of Nantes were used. Inclusion criteria were: full articles written in English, Portuguese, French, published since 2001. Development: There are now treatments, more or less invasive, to reduce or even eliminate these dyschromias, depending on their nature and severity. The authors propose different treatments which are: tooth whitening, enamel micro-abrasion, direct and indirect restorations. Conclusion: There are currently a number of treatments available. These treatments should be proposed according to the therapeutic gradient as well as according to the limitations of the different techniques and the aesthetic requirement of the patient.
