Abstract(s)
This article was intended to identify the dangers arising from the use of sodium hypochlorite as a intracanal irrigator and the appropriate ways for its management, still seeking to present the ways of prevention of accidents; To point out the most appropriate interventions according to the complications on the basis of the literature. It was concluded that the extrusion of sodium hypochlorite may damage the healthy tissues, in addition to causing pain, paresthesia, edema or even respiratory obstruction and severe hypotension leading the patient to hospitalization. Accidents can be avoided with medical history analysis, allergy test, imaging scans, use of locators for marking the length of work, dike and rubber stop, negative pressure needles or lateral dispersion with control of Ejection velocity. Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and analgesics can be prescribed prophylactically or to reduce the effects of complications when it was not possible to avoid the accident.
