A “Smear Layer” pode condicionar o sucesso do Tratamento Endodôntico Não-Cirúrgico. A
sua remoção, pela aplicação de irrigantes, com ou sem agitação, é um tema controverso.
Este trabalho constitui uma revisão narrativa da Literatura cujo objetivo é analisar as opiniões
dos diferentes autores, no caso de dentes maduros permanentes, sujeitos a Tratamento
Endodôntico Não-Cirúrgico, onde ocorre formação de Smear Layer”, relativamente ao
protocolo mais recomendado para a sua eficaz remoção. Procedeu-se à comparação da
capacidade de limpeza da irrigação convencional manual passiva com técnicas sónicas e
ultrassónicas (“Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation”, “EndoActivator®” e “Eddy®”), selecionando-se
estudos que usaram a metodologia “Scanning Eletron Microscopy”.
O “gold standard” para a remoção da “Smear Layer” é conseguido pela utilização simultânea
de um agente quelante e da solução de Hipoclorito de Sódio, com técnicas de agitação
mecanizadas.
Pretende-se, também, que este trabalho seja um guia útil para os Médicos Dentistas.
The Smear Layer can conditionate the success of Non-Surgical Endodontic Treatment. Its removal, through the application of irrigators, with or without agitation techniques, is a topic that remains controversial. The present work is a narrative review of the Literature that aims to analyze the different opinions of the authors, regarding permanent mature teeth submitted to Non-Surgical Endodontic Treatment, in which occurs Smear Layer formation, about which protocol is the most recommended for its effective removal. The cleaning capacity of conventional passive manual irrigation was compared with sonic and ultrasonic techniques (“Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation”, “EndoActivator®” and “Eddy®”), through selected studies that used the “Scanning Electron Microscopy” methodology. The gold standard for the removal of the Smear Layer is achieved by the simultaneous use of a chelating agent and sodium hypochlorite solution, with mechanized agitation techniques. It is also intended that this work could be a useful guide for Dentists.
