Atualmente existem diversas técnicas e procedimentos para contornar a ansiedade/medo/fobia sem recorrer a anestesia geral.
A sedação consciente é uma técnica em que o uso de medicamentos produz um estado de depressão do sistema nervoso central que permite a realização do tratamento, sendo a sedação consciente com protóxido de azoto a mais frequentemente usada. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho de investigação literário, é tentar de forma sistemática compreender se existem diferenças na sedação consciente com protóxido de azoto na população pediátrica e nos adultos.
Foi realizada uma pesquisa literária em bases de dados com as palavras-chave: "conscious sedation"; "conscious sedation in dentistry"; "nitrous oxide"; " Inhalation sedation"; "anxiety"; "moderate sedation". Foram selecionados 11 artigos que compreendiam os critérios de inclusão e exclusão definidos.
De acordo com a literatura escrutinada nesta revisão, não existem diferenças significativas na utilização da sedação inalatória com N2O quer nas crianças como nos adultos.
Currently there are several techniques and procedures to get around anxiety/fear/phobia without resorting to general anesthesia. Conscious sedation is a technique in which the use of medications produces a state of depression of the central nervous system that allows the treatment to be carried out, with conscious sedation with nitrogen oxide being the most frequently used. In this sense, the objective of this literary research work is to try systematically to understand if there are differences in conscious sedation with nitrogen oxide in the pediatric population and in adults. A literary search was performed in the databases using the following keywords: "conscious sedation"; "conscious sedation in dentistry"; "nitrous oxide"; "Inhalation sedation"; "anxiety"; "moderate sedation". We selected 11 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria defined. According to the literature scrutinized in this review, there are no significant differences in the use of inhaled sedation with N2O in both children and adults.
