O sorriso gengival é o termo usado para descrever uma exposição excessiva da gengiva durante
o sorriso no maxilar superior. A etiología é multifactorial, pelo que se devem ter em
consideração factores dentários, esqueléticos e genéticos a fim de abordar adequadamente o
tratamento do sorriso gengival. O médico dentista deve estabelecer um correto e preciso
diagnóstico diferencial, quer seja facial quer dentário, do qual dependerá o sucesso do
tratamento.
O objetivo desta revisão bibliográfica narrativa é perceber o diagnóstico diferencial do sorriso
gengival duma forma geral para uma correcta elaboração de um plano de tratamento, que poderá
incluir a combinação de varias terapêuticas multidisciplinares.
Gummy smile is the term used to describe overexposure of the gum during the smile in the upper jaw. The etiology is multifactorial, reason why it is necessary to take into consideration dental, skeletal and genetic factors in order to properly approach the treatment of the gingival smile. The dentist must establish a correct and accurate differential diagnosis, whether facial or dental, on which the success of treatment will depend. The aim of this narrative literature review is to try to understand the differential diagnosis of gingival smile in a generic way for the correct elaboration of a treatment plan that may include the combination of several multidisciplinary therapies.
