O laser foi introduzido no campo da medicina dentária com o intuito de superar algumas desvantagens impostas pelos métodos convencionais dos procedimentos dentários, podendo ser aplicado com a finalidade de aumentar o sucesso do tratamento. O objetivo desta revisão da literatura é fornecer uma visão geral sobre os fundamentos, tipos, aplicações clínicas, benefícios e limitações do uso do laser com fins odontológicos, enfatizando o seu uso na odontopediatria.
Este trabalho de revisão narrativa foi realizado através de uma pesquisa bibliográfica de artigos científicos utilizando várias palavras-chave isoladas e combinadas. Foram estipulados fatores de inclusão e exclusão para a seleção dos artigos..
Tendo em conta as vantagens do laser, os odontopediatras estão sempre à procura de novas técnicas, materiais e tecnologias que possam ajudar as crianças a experienciar tratamentos mais rápidos e eficazes, sendo o laser frequentemente utilizado no diagnóstico eficiente da cárie dentária, na medicina dentária preventiva e restauradora e no tratamento pulpar em crianças.
Lasers were introduced into the field of clinical dentistry with the hope of overcoming some of the drawbacks posed by the conventional methods of dental procedures, and they can be applied in order to increase the success of the treatment. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview on the fundamentals, types, clinical applications, benefits, and limitations of laser use in dental purposes, while focusing on its uses in pediatric dentistry. This review work was carried out through a bibliographical research of scientific articles, using several isolated and combined keywords. Factors of inclusion and exclusion of articles were stipulated for their selection. Given all the laser advantages, pediatric dentists are always looking for new techniques, materials and technologies that can help children experience faster and more effective treatments. The laser is often used in the efficient diagnosis of dental caries, preventive and restorative dentistry and in the pulp treatment in children, with clinical success.
