| dc.description.abstract | As próteses removíveis têm como principal objetivo reabilitar o sistema estomatognático de forma a repor a sua função mastigatória, fonética, estética e saúde oral. No entanto, surgem associadas ao uso das próteses vários tipos de lesões na mucosa sendo que a mais comum é a estomatite protética (EP). A estomatite protética é a designação aplicada ao processo inflamatório da mucosa de suporte de uma prótese dentária removível parcial ou total. Esta, afeta grande parte da população portadora de prótese removível e está associada à infeção por fungos como a Candida albicans. Contudo, vários estudos afirmam que os Streptococcus colaboram com a C.albicans na etiopatogenia da EP e que os fatores de saúde geral do indivíduo e problemas mecânicos como a rugosidade da prótese, o tipo de material e forma de confeção também influenciam o aparecimento ou não da EP. Assim, esta revisão bibliográfica tem como principal objetivo entender a etiologia, tratamento, aspetos clínicos da EP bem como a sua prevenção. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The main objective of the removable dentures is to rehabilitate the stomatognathic system in order to restore their masticatory function, phonetics, aesthetics and oral health. However, associated with the use of prostheses there are several types of lesions of the mucosa being the most common the denture induced stomatitis. Denture induced stomatitis is the term applied to the inflammatory process of the supporting mucosa of a total or partial removable dentures. Denture induced stomatitis affects a high percentage of removable prosthesis wearers and is associated with infection by fungi such as C. albicans. On the other hand, several studies claim that Streptococcus cooperate with Candida albicans in the pathogenesis of denture induced stomatitis. The general health of the individuals may have a role in the pathogenesis as well as factors such as mechanical problems related to the dentures. Roughness of the prosthesis, the type of material and method of manufacture may also influence the occurrence or not of EP. | pt_PT |
