Abstract(s)
MedLine (www.ncbi.nlm.gov),
PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed.com).
Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a disease that affects patients with head cancer, treated with radiation in order to eliminate the cancerous cells. One of the most aggressive side effects is bone necrosis, which occurs more often in the maxilla. There are different methods available to physicians and patients to treat and prevent this pathology. A bibliographic search was carried out by consulting the following databases: MedLine (www.ncbi.nlm.gov), PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed.com). The criteria for inclusion in this bibliographic research were: text in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish. We used articles, bibliographic reviews, studies, meta-analysis and systematic reviews. Regarding the inclusion criteria, all articles that addressed the treatment plans for osteoradionecrosis, effects of radiotherapy in the oral cavity, radiation effects, risk factors, etiology, prevention, complications of osteorradionecrosis, complications associated with Surgical procedures in the oral cavity.
