| dc.description.abstract | A sobremordida profunda é uma das má-oclusões mais comuns e também uma das mais difíceis de tratar com sucesso. Ela pode ser definida como um trespasse incisal excessivo, que varia significativamente de paciente para paciente. A etiologia é multifatorial, e de um ponto de vista desenvolvimental, a sobremordida pode ser esquelética ou dentária, causada por fatores genéticos ou ambientais, ou uma combinação de ambos. Muitos métodos ortodônticos podem ser utilizados para corrigir a sobremordida profunda, todavia não se sabe ainda quais tipos de correção são mais eficientes ou estáveis. Um importante problema relacionado ao tratamento ortodôntico da sobremordida profunda é a recidiva. Vários fatores individuais e de tratamento foram associados ao surgimento da recidiva. O objetivo do presente estudo é apresentar uma breve revisão de literatura a respeito da sobremordida profunda, abordando a importância do diagnóstico adequado e os aspectos que contribuem para a recidiva. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Deep overbite is one of the most common malocclusion and is also the most difficult to treat successfully. It is may defined as an excessive incisal overlap, which varies widely from patient to patient. The etiology is multifactorial, and from a developmental perspective, the overbite may be skeletal or dental, is caused by either genetic or environmental factors, or a combination of both. Many orthodontic methods may be used to correct the deep overbite, however it is unknown which types of correction are most efficient or stable. A major problem related to the orthodontic treatment of the deep overbite is the relapse. Several individual and treatment factors have been associated with the relapse. The aim of the present study is to show a brief literature review about the deep overbite, addressing the importance of the appropriate diagnosis and the aspects that contribute with the relapse. | pt_PT |
