A Medicina Dentária restauradora encontra-se em contínuo aperfeiçoamento. O desenvolvimento de novos materiais cerâmicos tem proporcionado aos Médicos Dentistas várias opções para a confecção de facetas cerâmicas que providenciam resultados estéticos satisfatórios, restabelecem de forma eficaz a força e a função dos dentes e, preservam ao máximo as estruturas biológicas envolvidas.
É imperioso o conhecimento dos materiais para a seleção mais adequada de acordo com cada caso clínico. Nesta etapa, é importante ter em conta a sua longevidade, estabilidade de cor e propriedades mecânicas e ópticas.
O presente trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão narrativa da literatura a fim de comparar os materiais utilizados na confeção de facetas cerâmicas. Foram, ainda, descritas vantagens e desvantagens, indicações e contra-indicações das facetas cerâmicas. Realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica com limites temporais entre 2007 e 2017, selecionando-se, seguidamente, os artigos considerados relevantes.

The development of new ceramic materials has given dentist doctor several options for making ceramic facets which provide satisfactory aesthetic results, effectively restore the strength and function of teeth and preserve the biological structures. Knowledge of the materials for the most appropriate selection according to each clinical case is essential. At this stage, it is important to take into account its longevity, color stability and mechanical and optical properties. The objective of this work was to carry out a narrative review of the literature in order to compare the materials used in making ceramic facets. Advantages and disadvantages, indications and contraindications of the ceramic facets were also described. A bibliographic research with temporal limits between 2007 and 2017, was carried out and the resulting selection of the most relevant articles.
