Abstract(s)
Erosive wear is a progressive and irreversible phenomenon in the structure of hard dental tissue. It is caused by the dissolution of dental mineral substances starting after excessive exposure to nonbacterial acids of intrinsic and extrinsic origin. In addition to erosion, there are three possible causes for tooth wear: attrition, abrasion and abrasion, which are often caused by a multifactorial process. Erosion is a phenomenon that manifests itself by a purely chemical process in search of an acid-base balance in the oral environment. It must be well differentiated from the loss of dental tissue due to other types of wear, which can be complicated by certain clinical similarities of the lesions, as well as by their multifactorial origin. The clinical intervention in the face of structural loss implies the control of the etiological factors, namely dietary, behavioral and pathological, associated with preventive measures to strengthen the dental structure and in more advanced cases with therapeutic measures. The purpose of this narrative review is to gather information on dental erosive wear in order to make the correct diagnosis, and also to allow an effective preventive and therapeutic approach in order to minimize the sequelae of the disease.
