Abstract(s)
O Medo e Ansiedade Dentária são um problema comum e de Saúde Pública com um enorme impacto na qualidade de vida dos indivíduos afetados e no desempenho do Médico Dentista. Ambos definem uma apreensão: a um estímulo objetivo e a um estímulo subjetivo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi definir e compreender a etiologia, o impacto e soluções do Medo e Ansiedade Dentária, tendo como metodologia, a revisão literária efetuada na base de dados PubMed, sendo que os critérios de inclusão limitaram os artigos a um período entre 2006 e 2017, em inglês, português e espanhol, de acesso gratuito e os critérios de exclusão rejeitaram artigos que não se relacionassem com a temática e que incluíssem menores de 18 anos. Em conclusão, verificou-se que são parcos os estudos acerca das causas e dos fatores determinantes para o Medo e Ansiedade Dentária bem como acerca da eficácia das técnicas desenvolvidas para o seu combate. A prevalência desta problemática é maior nas mulheres, nos indivíduos com menor instrução e estrato socioeconómico baixo e com uma saúde geral débil, diminuindo com o aumento da idade.
Dental Fear and Anxiety are a common problem of Public Health with a huge impact on individuals’ quality of life and of the Dentists’ performance. Both are defined as an aprehension, either to an objective stimulus or a subjetive stimulus. The aim of this paper was to define and understand the etiology, the impact and the solutions of Dental Fear and Anxiety. The present literary review was accomplished by a rummage on the research engine PubMed. Inclusion criteria limited the research to a period situated between 2006 and 2017, either in english, portuguese or spanish and with free access. The exclusion criteria rejected all articles that did not match the theme and the ones that included children. In conclusion, it was found that there are few studies about the causes and the determining factors of Dental Fear and Anxiety and about the effectiveness of the developed technics for its erradication. The prevalence of this issue is higher among women, individuals with a low instruction and low socioeconomic stratum and with a poorer general health status, decreasing with the increase of age.
