As más oclusões de Classe II são causadas por disfunções e parafunções da cavidade oral, que podem prejudicar o normal desenvolvimento craniofacial. O objetivo deste trabalho é tentar esclarecer quais os aparelhos removíveis mais utilizados para tratar a má oclusão esquelética de Classe II e se a idade em que ocorre o tratamento é relevante para o mesmo.
A pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada em bases de dados como Pubmed, Google Acadêmico e Cairn utilizando como palavras-chave “Anomalias de Classe II”; “Tratamento de anomalias de Classe II”; “Tratamento intercetivo”; “Aparelhos ortodônticos removíveis”; “Dispositivos miofuncionais” “Dispositivos funcionais”; incluído os artigos referentes ao tratamento de Classe II com dispositivos removíveis em dentição decídua, mista e adulta sem limitação temporal.
O uso de aparelhos removíveis parece ser benéfico no tratamento durante o período de crescimento, no entanto seriam necessários mais estudos para aferir quanto a eficácia de um ou outro dispositivo.
Class II malocclusions are caused by dysfunctions and parafunctions of the oral cavity, which can together impair normal cranial developement. The aim of this study is to try to clarify which removable appliances are most commonly used to treat Class II skeletal malocclusion and whether the age at which treatment occurs is relevant to it. Bibliographic research was carried out in databases such as Pubmed, Google Scholar and Cairn using as keywords "Class II anomalies", "Treatment of Class II anomalies", "Interceptive treatment", "Removable orthodontic appliances", "Myofunctional devices", "Functional devices", included the articles referring to the treatment of Class II with removable devices in deciduous, mixed and adult dentition without temporal limitation. The use of removable appliances seems to be beneficial in the treatment during the growth period, however more studies would be needed to assess the effectiveness of one or another device.
