| dc.description.abstract | A presente investigação teve como objetivos avaliar, na população de estudantes do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Dentária da Universidade Fernando Pessoa, o conhecimento sobre como atuar, perante suspeita em consultório, de casos de maus-tratos de crianças e adolescentes, e aferir o conhecimento dos estudantes sobre as responsabilidades médico-legais em relação à denúncia de maus-tratos e a sua importância. Para tal, realizou-se um questionário, exclusivamente online, enviado via email institucional. Os resultados indicam que a maioria dos estudantes (48%) não é capaz de identificar todos os tipos de maus-tratos, mas de uma forma geral, são capazes de reconhecer os sinais característicos dos mesmos (81,85%). Relativamente ao papel do Médico Dentista, os participantes consideram-no privilegiado para diagnosticar maus-tratos infantis (84,2%), no entanto, apenas 50,9% afirma saber as suas responsabilidades legais. Foi possível concluir que os estudantes do 5oano demonstraram mais conhecimentos do que os alunos de anos anteriores, mas os conhecimentos destes também poderiam ser melhorados, pelo que uma maior formação na área pode ser fundamental para melhorar o conhecimento e nível de confiança dos graduados na identificação e notificação de casos de maus-tratos. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The present investigation aimed to evaluate, in the population of dentistry students at the Fernando Pessoa University, the knowledge on how to act, when there is suspicion in the dental office, of cases of child and adolescent maltreatment, and to assess the knowledge of the students about the medical-legal responsibilities regarding the reporting of maltreatment and its importance. To this end, a questionnaire was conducted, exclusively online, sent via institutional email to dentistry students at Fernando Pessoa University. The results indicate that most students (48%) are not able to identify all types of maltreatment, but in general, they are able to recognize their characteristic signs (81,85%). Regarding the role of the Dentist, the participants consider him/her privileged to diagnose child maltreatment (84.2%), while only 50.9% claim to know their legal responsibilities. It was possible to conclude that the 5th year students demonstrated more knowledge than students from previous years, but their knowledge could also be improved, so further training in the area could be fundamental to improve the knowledge and confidence level of the graduates in identifying and reporting cases of maltreatment. | pt_PT |
