O presente trabalho consiste de uma revisão bibliográfica com o objetivo principal de realizar a correlação entre o Lúpus eritematoso sistémico (LES) e suas consequências diretas na cavidade oral.
O LES afeta diversas pessoas em todo o mundo e por ser caracterizada como uma doença inflamatória crónica de origem multifatorial, e com prejuízo sistémico, deve-se ter bastante atenção desde o diagnóstico até o tratamento de modo a otimizar todo o acompanhamento do paciente.
O médico dentista tem um papel importante logo no diagnóstico da condição, devendo estar atento aos sinais precoces que podem aparecer na cavidade oral com uma frequência de até 21% nos casos de LES.
Desta forma, este trabalho poderá não só auxiliar os médicos dentistas no diagnóstico, mas também, ajudar a compreender com detalhe o desenvolvimento da doença e que atitude deve ser tomada na sua presença.
The present work consists of a bibliographic review with the main objective of making the correlation between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and its direct consequences in the oral cavity. SLE affects many people around the world and since it is an inflammatory chronic disease with multifactorial origin and systemic impairment, attention should be given from diagnosis to treatment in order to optimize patient follow-up. The dentist plays an important role in diagnosis of the condition and should be aware of the early signs that may appear in the oral cavity, with a frequency of up to 21% of cases of SLE. Thus, this work can, not only to help the dentist in the diagnosis, but also help to understand in detail the development of the disease and what attitude to take in the presence of it.
