Abstract(s)
Maxillary hypoplasia must be diagnosed and treated early, avoiding dental problems and also the development of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. Diagnosed and treated late, the result becomes difficult due to the closure of the palatal suture. MARPE was developed in order to allow the disjunction of the medial palatal suture in adults. The aim of this work, carried out through a literature review, was to describe the mechanism of action of MARPE and its effects on the upper airways. The development of new treatment possibilities brings benefits to the adult patient’s quality of life.
