Abstract(s)
The mandible is a bone that, due to its topography, anatomy and projection in the lower third of the face, is frequently affected by trauma and may result in fractures. This work aimed to describe the types of fractures that occur in the mandible, as well as to verify its main etiological agents and prevalence, through bibliographic research. It was observed that these fractures are caused mainly by traffic accidents, aggressions, falls or sports accidents. Mandibular fractures are quite frequent, occupying the second place among the bones of the face, being more prevalent in young men and among the most varied etiologies are car accidents and physical aggression and leisure. It is concluded that, although this type of fracture can be avoided, to some extent, current life makes it more and more frequent. The objective of this work is to present a bibliographical review, considering general aspects such as etiology, classification, prevalence and physical aspects of the various types of fractures that affect the maxillary bone.
