Abstract(s)
Aim: To evaluate the relationship between socio-economic determinants and the need for Nonsurgical Endodontic Treatment in the Portuguese population. Materials and Methods: Online questionnaire conducted to patients (≥18 years) from Fernando Pessoa University Teaching Clinic, Private Clinics and Dental Services of the National Health System in Portugal. The questionnaire included 25 questions on Individual and Behavioral Determinants and use of Health Services. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS, version 28.0.1.0 (142), with a 5% significance level. Results: A total of 400 answers were analysed. The mean age of the participants was 37.06 ± 15.26 years, mostly females, with a Bachelor's degree. In general, participants prefer salty snacks and consume sugar less than 4 times a day. Most individuals do not use dental floss and brush their teeth twice a day. Most participants had visited the dentist less than 1 year ago and used the private service. The main reason for the last visit was for dental check-up. 198 out of 400 participants have already undergone Non-Surgical Endodontic Treatment. Conclusions: The family monthly income and the daily brushing frequency may be associated to the need for Non-Surgical Endodontic Treatment. Non-surgical Endodontic Treatment was considered expensive by 36.9% of patients and when compared with other types of treatment, 28.3% of patients considered it expensive. The generalized integration of Dental Medicine in the National Health Service would prove to be very advantageous for the portuguese population.
