Abstract(s)
dados eletrónicas: Pubmed, B-On e Web of Science.
Objective: to review the current scientific literature on the influence of low birth weight and prematurity on the prevalence of early childhood caries in children. Methods: Bibliographic search for scientific articles available in electronic databases: Pubmed, B-On and Web of Science. Search terms combined using Boolean markers were used. The selection of articles was carried out by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Fifty-four manuscripts were used for this narrative review. Topic: Preterm infants with low birth weight should be reported and included in a specific oral health care program that includes preventive measures for children at high risk for dental caries. Dentists and in particular pediatric dentists must be aware of the relationship between prematurity and low birth weight with caries in order to adjust preventive and therapeutic care to the specific needs of these patients.
