| dc.description.abstract | Objetivos: Esta investigação teve como principal objetivo avaliar o tempo de utilização da chupeta por indivíduos com fenda lábio-palatina, e verificar se este ultrapassou o momento da queiloplastia ou da palatoplastia. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional transversal através de levantamento da informação de 73 registos clínicos de indivíduos com fenda lábio-palatina. A análise de dados foi executada com o IBM® SPSS® Statistics vs.25.0. A comparação de grupos ou associação entre variáveis foi realizada através de testes não-paramétricos e foi considerado um nível de significância de 0,05 (α=0,05). Resultados: Desta amostra, 34,2% das crianças usaram chupeta em média até aos 13,6 (10,5) meses. O seu uso é mais prevalente pelo género masculino. Quanto à lateralidade, indivíduos com fenda unilateral usam menos a chupeta do que os que possuem fenda bilateral (33,3% vs. 36%), mas sem diferença significativa. A utilização da chupeta não se encontra associada com a extensão da fenda. Na amostra, os indivíduos do grupo II de Spina são os que mais usam a chupeta. Nesta amostra, 8,2% usou chupeta até à queiloplastia e 26% continuou a usá-la após esta cirurgia. Dos indivíduos que realizaram a palatoplastia e usavam chupeta, 23,3% usou chupeta até à data da intervenção e 9,6% continuou após a palatoplastia. Conclusões: Nenhuma das variáveis em estudo, nomeadamente, a extensão da fenda, a lateralidade da fenda ou o género mostrou estar significativamente relacionada à utilização da chupeta. A maioria das crianças cessa o uso da chupeta com a palatoplastia. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Objective: This investigation aimed to evaluate the duration of pacifier use by individuals with cleft lip and palate, and check if it has exceeded the time of queiloplasty or palatoplasty. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted by surveying the information of 73 clinical records of individuals with cleft lip and palate. The data analysis was performed with the IBM® SPSS® Statistics vs.25.0. The comparison of groups and of association between variables was performed through non-parametric tests using a significance level of 0.05 (α=0.05). Results: Of the total sample, 34.2% of the children used pacifiers on average up to 13.6 (10.5) months. Its use is more prevalent among males. As for laterality, individuals with unilateral cleft use the pacifier less than those with bilateral cleft (33.3% vs. 36%), but without significant difference. The use of a pacifier is not associated with the completeness of the cleft. In the sample, individuals in Spina group II are the ones who use the pacifier the most. In this sample, 8.2% used pacifiers until cheiloplasty and 26% continued to use it after this surgery. Of the individuals who underwent palatoplasty and used pacifiers, 23.3% used pacifiers up to the date of the intervention and 9.6% continued after palatoplasty. Conclusion: None of the variables under study, namely, the completeness of the cleft, the laterality of the cleft or the gender showed to be significantly related to the use of the pacifier.
