Abstract(s)
Introduction: Promoting the health of older adults involves strategies to improve their quality of life and delay the aging process, necessitating the promotion of various capacities. It is essential to promote and stimulate the physical capacity of older adults, helping them maintain their autonomy. Objective: To map the available evidence to identify games/exercises for promoting the physical and cognitive capacity of older individuals. Methods: A scoping review was conducted using the following databases: MEDLINE (via PubMed), CINAHL (via EBSCO) and WEB OF SCIENCE. RESULTS: 13 articles were included. Games that promote the physical and cognitive abilities of older adults can be exergames, which involve technologies like Nintendo Wii Fit that specifically promote physical and cognitive abilities, while traditional games, which not involve technology, such as climbing stairs, predominantly promote physical abilities. Discussion: Exergames offer more significant improvements than traditional games, and it is common to have combined of physical and cognitive abilities in older adults. Conclusions: Exergames demonstrate effectiveness in promoting the physical and cognitive abilities of the elderly, being recognized as an important technological resource in this context.
