A Endodontia é a área da Medicina Dentária responsável pelo estudo da polpa dentária, dos sistemas dos canais radiculares e dos tecidos periapicais, assim como das patologias que os atingem.
Uma reabsorção radicular consiste num processo patológico, provocando a perda de tecidos duros e tecidos moles dentários, que resulta da ação de células clásticas. Na suspeita desta lesão, é crucial realizar um diagnóstico correto para posterior escolha do plano de tratamento ideal. O diagnóstico baseia-se na história clínica e dentária do paciente, bem como na demonstração radiográfica.
A etiologia deste tipo de lesões ainda não é totalmente clara, no entanto existe fatores etiológicos que têm sido fortemente associados às mesmas como, por exemplo, o tratamento ortodôntico e trauma.
O tratamento aplicado nos diversos casos desta lesão depende do prognóstico que o dente apresenta, bem como das estruturas que são afetadas.
O objetivo desta revisão narrativa consiste no fundamento do diagnóstico diferencial entre os tipos mais frequentes de reabsorções radiculares que enfrentamos em consultório.
Endodontics is the area of dentistry responsible for the study of the dental pulp, root canal systems and periapical tissues, as well as the pathologies that affect them. Root resorption is a pathological process, causing the loss of dental hard and soft tissues, which results from the action of clastic cells. When this lesion is suspected, it’s crucial to make a correct diagnosis for later choosing the ideal treatment plan. The diagnosis is based on the patient's clinical and dental history, as well as on radiographic demonstration. The etiology of this type of lesions is still not entirely clear, however there are etiological factors that have been strongly associated with them, such as orthodontic treatment and trauma. The treatment applied in the different cases of this lesion depends on the prognosis that the tooth presents, as well as the structures that are affected. The objective of this narrative review is to provide the foundation for the differential diagnosis between the most frequent types of root resorption that we face in the office.
