Abstract(s)
Background: Nursing care provided to patients who require the placement of a Peripheral Venous Catheter requires discipline from nurses, technical and scientific rigor in its insertion, fixation and handling, based on recommendations based on scientific evidence. Objectives: Analyze the Peripheral Venous Catheterization technique and identify the practices inherent to Peripheral Venous Catheterization according to the Guidelines for the Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infections launched in 2011 as clinical guidance for the prevention of infection associated with care and health recommended by the Center for Disease Control ( CDC) and identify the phases of digital records inherent to CVP. Method: Quantitative descriptive and exploratory study, with the application of a questionnaire (Grid recording procedures performed by nurses during and during maintenance in peripheral venous catheterization) to collect data from a sample of 62 nurses who were in clinical practice, at least for six months. Presentation and interpretation of the results: The mapping of the collection of the interpretation of the questionnaires of the 62 respondents will allow identifying nursing care inherent to the frequencies and techniques used in the practice of placing the PVCs. Conclusion: A substantial percentage of nurses do not follow DGS standards and CDC recommendations, the Guidelines for the Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infection, failing to comply with important steps in insertion, fixation and handling, thus contributing to an increased risk of patient safety.
