Objetivo: Esta revisão da literatura teve como objetivo rever nos últimos cinco anos, as
evidências de uma possível associação entre Disfunção Temporomandibular e Tratamento
Ortodôntico.
Materiais e métodos: Foi realizada uma pesquisa na base de dados Medline, no portal
Pubmed, com os termos “temporomandibular disorders” e “orthodontic treatment” e o
operador boleano AND, nos últimos cinco anos, limitando-a ao idioma português e inglês.
Resultados: Foram encontrados duzentos e noventa e nove artigos, e após se aplicarem os
critérios de inclusão, foram excluídos duzentos e noventa e um artigos. Obtiveram-se oito
artigos relevantes, os quais relacionavam a Disfunção Temporomandibular com o Tratamento
Ortodôntico.
Conclusão: Nesta revisão bibliográfica, o tratamento ortodôntico não demonstra ser um
tratamento valioso no tratamento das DTM. Mais estudos são necessários para demonstrar a
sua associação.

Materials and methods: A search is carried out in the Medline database, on the Pubmed portal, with the terms "temporomandibular disorders" and "orthodontic treatment" and the Boolean operator AND, in the last five years, limiting it to Portuguese and English. Results: Two hundred and ninety-nine articles were found, and after applying the inclusion criteria, two hundred and ninety-one articles were excluded. Eight relevant articles were obtained, which related Temporomandibular Dysfunction with Orthodontic Treatment. Conclusion: In this literature review, orthodontic treatment does not demonstrate to be a valuable treatment in the treatment of temporomandibular disorder. Further studies are needed to demonstrate their association.
