O material de eleição nos últimos anos para a execução de facetas tem sido a cerâmica. No entanto, a resina composta tem ganho popularidade neste campo. O objetivo deste trabalho é fazer uma revisão da literatura sobre as características, vantagens e desvantagens das facetas em cerâmica e em resina composta de modo a responder à seguinte questão: existem evidências científicas clínicas e/ou laboratoriais de que as facetas em cerâmica apresentam melhor performance do que as facetas em resina composta?
A pesquisa foi efetuada através das bases de dados científicos “Pubmed” e “Science Direct”.
De um total de 1134 artigos disponíveis, foram selecionados 37 de acordo com os critérios de inclusão/exclusão definidos.
Ambos os materiais têm as suas vantagens e desvantagens. A decisão final deve ser baseada numa avaliação completa do paciente e numa discussão das opções restauradoras.
The material of choice for veneer execution has been ceramic. However, composite resin has gained popularity in this field. The objective of this study is to review the literature on the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of ceramic and composite resin veneers in order to answer the following question: Are there clinical and/or laboratory scientific evidences that ceramic veneers perform better than composite resin veneers?
