Abstract(s)
Introduction: Alcohol consumption among university students is a widely ob- served phenomenon across various cultures and social contexts. During the transition to adulthood, many young people experience greater freedom and new responsibilities, which can lead to consumption behaviors that, in some cases, becomes excessive. Objective: This scoping review aimed to map the available evidence regarding harm reduction strategies related to alcohol consumption among university students, iden- tifying effective interventions. Methods: The research was conducted in the MEDLINE database (via PubMed), CINAHL, and the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde. The articles included in this review were those published with a study population aged 18 years or older, in English, regardless of the country or study type. Out of the 171 articles initially found, only 6 are included in this scoping review. Results: The harm reduction strategies for alcohol consumption among university students identified were the Protective Behavioral Strategies and the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students program. Conclusion: In this scoping review, Protective Behavioral Strategies and Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students program program play a signif- icant role in reducing alcohol-related harm in university settings. Protective Behavioral Strategies have proven effective in promoting safer drinking practices and mitigating se- vere consequences. Meanwhile, the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students program program combines educational and motivational elements, being par- ticularly beneficial for more vulnerable students, such as those facing social anxiety.
