Abstract(s)
O presente estudo destaca a importância do diagnóstico em Harmonização Orofacial e aponta caminhos a seguir no futuro, a nível clínico e investigacional.
Aging is characterized by dynamic, multifactorial and multidimensional changes, reflected in the structures of the face as they affect changes in the various anatomical structures and tissues. Orofacial Harmonization is an unavoidable topic in current clinical practice in Dentistry that comprises a set of techniques to develop or highlight individual harmony, articulating facial proportions with the smile, focusing on the aesthetic and functional unity of orofacial structures. Objective: The objective of this work is to analyze facial changes in the middle third of the face resulting from the aging process and to evaluate the changes perceived by participants from five different age groups. Results: Cephalometric and facial analysis are useful in identifying facial changes resulting from facial aging, with a reduction in the nasolabial angle being observed (the remaining parameters under analysis were within reference values). In the facial analysis, the main changes were observed in the texture of the skin, the existence of periorbital wrinkles, ptosis of the upper eyelid and a more pronounced nasolabial fold. Self-perception of image in the present study demonstrated that personal perception of aged appearance was considerably younger than the actual situation. Conclusion: Dentists increasingly face clinical challenges that combine health, function, rejuvenation, harmony and well-being, which complement the smile. The present study highlights the importance of diagnosis in Orofacial harmonization and points out ways forward in the future, at a clinical and investigational level.
