Abstract(s)
Objetivo: Hoje em dia, os pacientes procuram um sorriso cada vez mais estético, sendo que a procura
por dentes mais brancos tem vindo a aumentar substancialmente. Como tal, o branqueamento dentário
ganhou uma especial relevância nos últimos anos, uma vez que é um tratamento não invasivo, que
conserva ao máximo a forma do dente e que é capaz de trazer, em pouco tempo, um sorriso mais
estético.
Este trabalho tem como principal objetivo a realização duma revisão bibliográfica sobre o
branqueamento dentário externo, bem como a sua história, os seus agentes branqueadores, as suas
técnicas, os seus efeitos adversos e as alterações que provocam tanto no esmalte como na dentina.
Metodologia: Foi feita uma pesquisa bibliográfica em vários motores de busca e bases de dados,
sendo que se utilizou como palavras chave: “home-bleaching; peróxido de carbamida; peróxido de
hidrogénio; esmalte”. Após implementar os critérios de inclusão e exclusão, obtiveram-se 27 artigos
para revisão.

Given that, tooth whitening has gained a special relevance in the last few years with it being a non-intrusive treatment which conserves the tooth form and is capable of delivering a more aesthetic smile in a short period of time. The main objetive of this paper is to perform a literature review on external teeth whitening as well as its history, its whitening agents and associated techniques, its adverse effects and alterations that cause both enamel and dentin damage. Methodology: A bibliographic search was carried out in numerous search engines and databases using the following keywords: “home-bleaching; carbamide peroxide, hydrogene peroxide; enamel”. After implementing the inclusion and exclusion criteria the number of articles obtained for review was 27.
