Abstract(s)
In the two years, mainly after Bell's studies on maxillary revascularization, the surgical techniques of Le Fort I Osteotomy have been used in greater proportions. In addition to improving aesthetics, function and diction, it also alters the maxillo-mandibular relationship. It is a valuable technique for access to the base of the skull and central region of the face. A rare but significant complication is trans or postoperative haemorrhage. The most common site of occurrence of hemorrhagic events is the posterior part of the maxilla, and the vessel most involved is the descending palatine artery. The purpose of this Narrative Bibliographic Review is to bring a better understanding of the surgical technique and of the major vascular events that may occur in the trans and postoperative period. This allows the surgeon to anticipate and prevent possible complications that sometimes result in bleeding or inadequate maxillary perfusion.
