O laser no tratamento não cirúrgico da periodontite crónica: revisão narrativa

Resumo(s)
Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia do laser, isolado ou como coadjuvante à raspagem e alisamento radicular, no tratamento não cirúrgico da periodontite crónica.
Materiais e Métodos: Realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica recorrendo à base de dados da PubMed. Apenas foram incluídas revisões sistemáticas e meta-análises, sem limites temporais e publicadas em língua inglesa ou portuguesa. A pesquisa resultou num total de 13 artigos.
Resultados: Até à data, não existem evidências suficientes que sustentem o benefício terapêutico do laser.
Conclusão: São necessários mais estudos clínicos randomizados, com amostras maiores e protocolos bem delineados, para suportar cientificamente o efeito benéfico do laser como coadjuvante ou como alternativa ao tratamento convencional não cirúrgico da periodontite crónica, em pacientes adultos.

Only systematic reviews and meta-analysis were included, with no time limits and published in English or Portuguese. The search resulted in a total of 13 items. Results: To date, there is insufficient evidence to support the therapeutic benefit of the laser. Conclusion: More randomized clinical studies with larger samples and well-designed protocols are needed to scientifically support the beneficial effect of laser as an adjunctive or as an alternative to conventional non-surgical treatment of chronic periodontitis in adult patients.
