Abstract(s)
This study aimed to investigate the perception of the elderly about aging, body, sexuality and time. The research took place in two stages. Firstly, searching for concepts and theoretical frameworks that would allow theorizing, and secondly, carrying out a field research in which 21 subjects were interviewed. The covered matters took into account the approach by the writer Hilda Hilst in her literary works: “A Obscena Senhora D” (2001), “Estar Sendo, Ter Sido” (2006), and “Contos d‟Escárneo/ Textos Grotescos” (2002), on the subjectivity and meanings associated to gerontology and their anthropological dimension. In order to contribute to the research methodology, the research sought to follow guiding principles in cultural studies, in order to identify the meaning and context of the work under discussion. Qualitative research therefore was appropriate for the proposed study because it focuses on the interpretation and understanding of the meanings and subjectivity appearing in the work of Hilda Hilst in the scope of the discussion about body, time and aging. According to this writer‟s works, age configures a building in ruins. On the other hand, for the elderly interviewed, old age was experienced as something tangible, full of setbacks and paradoxically also new possibilities of living. We conclude that some fragments of Hilstian fictional prose reveal behind sarcasm, mockery, pimps terms, aggressiveness, and sometimes nonsense of her delusional characters, an extreme love, concern and deep tenderness for humanity, as well as great passion for life. Nevertheless, this is distressed by the suffering of human beings in general. Beings who followed dangerous paths, who were condemned to a complete reversal of values.
