Abstract(s)
Usually, the last teeth to erupt are those that remain included or semi-included, after the third molars, the canine is the element that suffers the most impactation. The eruption of the canines is of extreme importance, since the retention of this tooth compromises the esthetics, occlusal function and phonetics of the patient. The prevalence is more common in the female genus and in the palatal region. Along the path of eruption, there are some factors, such as: lack of space, traumas or even the theory of genetics, so the canine can suffer impaction and must be diagnosed as soon as possible to receive the correct treatment. The diagnosis will be based on a clinical examination and a radiographic examination, to observe the degree of impaction and its correct location. Dental impactions can cause some disturbances in the development of occlusion, eventually compromising some adjacent teeth and structures, such as: root resorption of the lateral incisors, bone loss, gingival recession, cysts and others. It is essential that the Dentist is aware of this condition, both for the early diagnosis and for the use of the appropriate technique to obtain clinical success, since there are techniques of treatment that can solve the problem, among them: the exposure of the crown surgically, and then orthodontic traction. For the success of the treatment is essential the collaboration of the user, being aware of the prognosis and the risk factors.
