- Implant emergence profile strategies in esthetic rehabilitation zones: a scoping reviewPublication . Fouquier, Marine Alexandrine; Macedo, José Paulo deIntroduction: The emergence profile, the contour of an implant as it transitions from the peri-implant soft tissue to the prosthetic restoration, is a critical factor in achieving esthetic success in implant dentistry. This aspect of treatment is particularly significant in esthetic zones, where functional and visual outcomes are both prioritised. Proper management of the implant emergence profile not only allows for a natural result but also supports long-term peri-implant tissue health. This study’s aim is to suggest different possible strategies regarding the implants emergence profiles in order to create the most natural result possible. In order to do so, implant position, soft tissue management and prosthetic design will be discussed. Objectives: To establish a strategy to improve the esthetic outcomes of a dental implant addressing the following parameters: implant positioning, soft tissue management and prosthetic design. Methodology: The scoping review will use articles available on the databases Pubmed, Science Direct, Cochrane and Scopus. It will include case studies, reviews, thesis, and articles. The inclusion criterias are: studies in English, French and Portuguese in the last 10 years (2015 to 2025) on patients receiving dental implants in the anterior region. Also studies on implant emergence profiles and esthetic outcome evaluation (including the prosthesis) The excluding criterias are: Implants in non esthetic zones (Posterior), removable prosthetic devices, studies without an emergence profile consideration or focused on peri-implant diseases. Results: 33 articles were kept after the screening process, detailing techniques available to enhance the emergence profile’s esthetics Conclusion: Correct implant positioning planning and soft tissue management are the key to the formation of the emergence profile through various techniques (guided surgery, soft tissue augmentation, custom healing abutments). Esthetical success is however finalized by the prosthetic, its shade, material and retention system.
