It briefly refers to the work carried out in a traditional library, and the repercussions of the new technologies on all types of documents, on the means of accessing them, on the library users, and on the changes in the librarian’s professional culture. Este artigo aborda a temática da evolução do conceito de biblioteca, fazendo uma breve referência ao trabalho que se desenvolve numa biblioteca tradicional e às repercussões que as novas tecnologias têm sobre os novos tipos de documentos, sobre a forma de se lhes aceder, sobre os utilizadores das bibliotecas e sobre as alterações na cultura profissional do bibliotecário.
