Abstract(s)
The moment of birth is one of the most desired and expected by pregnant women. It is during gestation that the fears and yearnings about this moment are thought by future parturients, and the type of birth to be performed is one of the most important decisions. The general objective of this study is to understand if the type of delivery performed would or would not have consequences for the mother-infant relationship. As specific objectives we have: to study the psychometric qualities of the scale "PBQ – Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire"; to verify which factors influence the choice of the type of delivery; check whether there are any differences between planning and not planning for the existence of disturbances in the connection to the baby after birth; to verify if there are differences in the mothers' perception of the relationship with the child considering the type of childbirth; check for differences in disturbances in connection to the baby after birth, considering the type of delivery; check for differences in disturbances in connection to the baby after birth, considering the sex of the baby; check for any differences in disturbances in the connection to the baby after birth - damaged connection to the baby, considering the type of delivery performed; check for differences in disturbances in connection to the baby after birth - positive connection to the baby considering the type of delivery; check for differences in disturbances in connection to the baby after birth - rejection / anger considering the type of delivery. Our participants are 112 women who were mothers for the last time, at most, three years ago, aged between 21 and 45 years (M = 33.49; Dp = 4.617) To collect data, a questionnaire was elaborated with two parts: a session on sociodemographic data; another on child-related data and pregnancy/childbirth information. Lastly, a Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire. Regarding the results, the PBQ has a reasonable internal consistency. The results were only statistically significant in terms of the mothers' perception, that is, in their perception, the type of delivery will influence the infant mother connection. However, both the Damaged Binding Factor to the Baby, the Positive Bonding to the Baby and the Rejection / Rabies, did not present statistically significant results, as well as the existence of differences regarding the disturbances in the connection to the baby after birth, considering the type of delivery.
