Este trabalho foca-se na relação entre a periodontite apical e o insucesso endodôntico, examinado os fatores associados a essas duas condições e seu impacto no tratamento endodôntico.
Exploramos a periodontite apical definindo a doença e discutindo suas causas. Os mecanismos patogênicos e as manifestações clínicas da periodontite apical são abordados, assim como as consequências da falta de tratamento.
Quanto ao insucesso endodôntico, ele é definido como a falha do tratamento em eliminar completamente a infeção ou tratar a lesão da polpa dentária. Os fatores que contribuem para esse insucesso incluem infeções persistentes, obturação inadequada do canal e fraturas radiculares. Exemplos são fornecidos para ilustrar seu impacto no tratamento.
Os fatores que influenciam a relação entre a periodontite apical e o insucesso do tratamento endodôntico são então examinados. A gravidade da periodontite apical e a qualidade da obturação do canal radicular são fatores importantes a serem considerados. Além disso, a presença de infeções persistentes pode influenciar a persistência ou recorrência da periodontite apical após o tratamento endodôntico.
Em conclusão, esta tese identifica os fatores de risco associados ao insucesso endodôntico na periodontite apical. Destacando a importância de integrar a periodontite apical na avaliação e planeamento do tratamento endodôntico.
This work focuses on the relationship between apical periodontitis and endodontic failure. It examines the factors associated with these two conditions and their impact on endodontic treatment. We explore apical periodontitis by defining the disease and discussing its causes. The pathogenic mechanisms and clinical manifestations of apical periodontitis are addressed, as well as the consequences of untreated cases. Regarding endodontic failure, it is defined as the treatment's failure to completely eliminate the infection or treat the pulp lesion. Factors contributing to this failure include persistent infections, inadequate canal obturation, and root fractures. Examples are provided to illustrate their impact on treatment. The factors influencing the relationship between apical periodontitis and endodontic treatment failure are then examined. The severity of apical periodontitis and the quality of canal obturation are important factors to consider. Additionally, the presence of persistent infections can influence the persistence or recurrence of apical periodontitis after endodontic treatment. In conclusion, this thesis identifies the risk factors associated with endodontic failure in apical periodontitis. It emphasizes the importance of integrating apical periodontitis in the evaluation and planning of endodontic treatment.
