De acordo com a hipótese do autor, neste artigo dedicado ao estudo da mitologia dos Yanomani, os relatos míticos das origens consistem num esforço para construir o mundo humano, para compreender e explicar, um modo de se reconciliar e determinar o lugar de cada sociedade no mundo natural, mundo que, para ser compreendido, deve ser apropriado pela cultura. Este fenómeno não é só típico das chamadas culturas "primitivas". Todas as sociedades necessitam de acreditar num sistema de referência que lhe sirva para determinar a sua identidade. This is an article dedicated to the study of the Yanomamy mythology. The author presents a model according to which the Yanomamy mythical tales referring their origins are an attempt to explain the construction of the universe, to understand it, and also to determine the place of other cultures within its space. This pattern is not just typical of the so-called "primitive" societies; all societies need to have one reference system in order to establish their identities.
