| dc.description.abstract | Ultimamente assiste-se a um aumento de investigadores na área da Medicina, mais concretamente, no domínio das doenças neurológicas. No entanto, a Esclerose Múltipla (E.M.), doença incapacitante e crónica, é ainda pouco conhecida da população em geral. Surge com maior frequência em pessoas jovens contribuindo para uma diminuição da qualidade de vida dessas pessoas. O conhecimento das implicações biopsicossociais da E.M. e o apoio social são essenciais para a diminuição do sofrimento (físico e emocional) destes doentes e dos seus cuidadores. Pelo facto do investigador residir num concelho, Santa Maria da Feira, onde existe um número muito significativo de pessoas com esta patologia e conhecer de perto doentes com E.M. bem como as suas implicações na dinâmica familiar, surgiu o interesse em aprofundar os conhecimentos sobre esta patologia. Neste contexto, o presente estudo tem como finalidade conhecer a Qualidade de Vida dos doentes com Esclerose Múltipla. A metodologia utilizada para este estudo foi a aplicação de um questionário, a doentes portadores de E.M. sócios da ANEM (Associação Nacional de Esclerose Múltipla), sendo a amostra constituída por 47 doentes, tendo sido excluídos dois questionários pois foram preenchidos pelos cuidadores devido à incapacidade do doente. Os resultados mostram ser a forma Recidivante-remitente (por surtos), a mais frequente e aquela em que os doentes apresentam melhor Qualidade de Vida. Os indivíduos portadores de Esclerose Múltipla da nossa amostra consideram que a sua Qualidade de Vida se encontra diminuída, principalmente ao nível da Função Física, agravando-se com a idade do doente e com a evolução da doença. In these last days, there has been an increasing amount of investigators in the medical area, more specifically dedicated to the research of neurologic diseases. However, the Multiple Sclerosis (ME) a chronic and disabling disease, is still little known to the general population. It appears most often in young people contributing to a decreased quality of life of these people. The knowledge of the M.E. biopsychosocial implications and the social support are essential to the suffering decrease ( either physical , either emotional) of these patients and of their caregivers. In fact of the investigator live in this county, Santa Maria da Feira, where there are lots of people with this pathology and knowing very well patients with ME and, as well as the impact of this chronic and disabling disease in their daily life routine, that’s the reason of my interest in deepen the knowledge about this disease. In this context, the present research has the goal of determining the influence of Multiple Sclerosis in the patients’ quality of life. The used methodology was the application of a questionnaire to patients with MS and associated to the ANEM (Associação Nacional de Esclerose Múltipla) being the sample composed by 47 patients, once there were excluded two of the questionnaires because they were answered by caregivers due to the patients’ incapacity. Results show that the Relapsing-remitting form (for outbreaks) the most frequent is the one where patients present a better quality of life. Individuals suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (ME), in our sample, consider that their Quality of Life is actually diminished, mostly at the level of Physical Functions, and that it is getting worse with aging and with the evolution of the disease. | por |
